Live on air with Liz

Never in a million years did I dream that I would be sitting next to Liz Earle on live TV! But that’s exactly what happened to me on Friday evening, when I was invited to the QVC studios in London to join Liz and help launch our Cleanse & Polish Special Edition for The Prince’s Trust.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so nervous, waiting on set and watching the programme before I went on. Everyone at QVC had done a wonderful job of making me feel comfortable and at home, but I tend to over-think everything, so kept asking myself questions like ‘What if I say the wrong things?’, or ‘What if the viewers don’t like me?’. I was even worrying about my little sister who I’d brought along with me to share the experience, who was, of course, perfectly happy sitting in the green room and being incredibly well looked after by the team! Then not a minute too soon, it was time for me to join Liz and Alison Young, the presenter, and I had 30 seconds to walk over and sit myself down before the cameras were on me.

The next quarter of hour went by so quickly. Although I was on air for about 15 minutes, it felt more like two… time just rushed past me in a flash. We talked about the special edition’s soothing, calming scent, my incredible year spent with Liz and her team, and also how the Trust had helped me set up my own beauty business. We managed a quick wave to Harry, my five-year-old, who I knew was watching, although when I talked to him later, he couldn’t understand why I wasn’t looking straight at him and waving back all the time! And it was fantastic in the middle of it all when Alison announced that we had sold out of the special edition – I felt an amazing whoosh of relief and excitement.

After the show, Liz and I were asked to take part in a Facebook live chat with QVC viewers. It was great to hear so much positive feedback and one woman wanted to find out more about getting funding from The Trust. She happens to live in Doncaster where I’m based, so I’ve invited her to pop in for a chat – I’d love to be able to offer whatever support I can. This is exactly what the Tomorrow campaign is about…helping others to build a better and brighter future.

Despite the nerves, it was definitely one of the best experiences I’ve had so far on my Liz Earle adventure. If I had to pinpoint a highlight, it would be the pep talk that Liz gave me before we went on and the adrenalin rush when it was all over! It really was an amazing evening, and one I will never forget.
